Artist Statement.

Light and Space are integral factors in how something is viewed. Kerrie Corfield’s practice addresses the subconscious relationship between light, space and the creation of an atmosphere. The installations consist of hand made structures and ready available light sources, paired with the use of height to create shadows. She works around the audiences' reaction on the installations and builds on these reactions to feel wonder on the installations.
I spend most of my practice developing practical skills through the process of creating. As well as the physical structures, electricity is a key factor towards outcomes of my installations by defining the visual ability of light and shadow. Throughout my artist practice colour has been a main fragment, singular colour as well as collective. This intensifies the works impression on how colour and space can create a larger impact.
Influenced by Dan Flavin and James Turrell, two artists who work with light as their medium. They have enabled the ability to find the illusion factor in light installed artworks, which engage their use of colour with light which is how she creates her light installations.
